Mise-en-scene video feedback and learner response
1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full.
-Brilliant attention to detail in the opening dialogue and actor placement and movement is a real strength here- it is clear you have analysed the original scene in detail. A couple of mise-en-scene errors :tripod visible in one of the shots and this would need to have been re shot. Audio levels are uneven in places but this is difficult in external locations.
2) Use the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If...)
What went well for my recreation is that I accurately replicated the dialogue and the movements and I also picked a setting which matched that of the original scene however some issues include uneven audio throughout the recreation as in some areas it is louder than other scenes and in one of the scenes a tripod is visible meaning this scene would have had to been reshot to eliminate the tripod from appearing which causes a continuity error.
3) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How did your planning help clarify and develop your ideas?
I believe that planning overall had a significant effect on ensuring that my recreation was easy and efficient to film as all the motions and dialogue where planned before hand and worked on. By planning I was able to get a better idea of how scenes could be shot.
4) Thinking technically, how could you improve your work for future videos? (E.g. filming, editing, etc.)
For future videos a higher quality camera would be used and moreover high quality audio recording devices such as microphones so that audio levels are clear. Tripods would be used to make sure cameras are stable enough during scene shootings so that wobble is eliminated.
5) Finally, what have you learned regarding the importance of mise-en-scene in film and television? Write a paragraph to answer this.
The main thing that I have learned is that every detail matters even down to props and small things in the backround as they could make or break your video, if a prop is out of place or does not match the genre of the video or if the setting or dialogue doesn't match the genre then the video ends up becoming a waste as all these small details such as clothing and lighting and even camera work and how the camera moves join up to form the basis of a video and if one thing is wrong with any of the parts then the foundation of the video crumbles. Moreover, it is important that the background of a video should be full of objects or props which directly link to the genre as the viewers often see these props and make assumptions about the video so if the background has elements which do not correlate with the genre then the viewers will not tolerate this well which is why mise-en-scene is important.
